Now, as a diabetic, I am using this system to manage balanced nutrition while losing weight and reducing my intake of carbohydrates. The meal plan below is for approximately 1800 calories and limits carbohydrates to 225 grams.
What I have found to be the most difficult with reducing carbohydrates is that it is really easy to replace them with fats, which I am trying to avoid. However, this approach is working. Along with a minimum of 300 minutes of exercise a week and following this plan, I have gone from 262 to 239 pounds in about 8 weeks.

This is interesting and provides useful insight. I wonder, if Callie were not already on an exchange system, would you have tried a different type of diet to manage the diabetes? While pregnant I had gestational diabetes and I essentially cut all starch and non-fruit sugars. Mostly I ate protein and veggies with dairy and, yes, fat. I lost weight until I was about 8 months pregnant. Malcolm came out at almost 9.5 pounds and I weighed less after pregnancy then I did before. Which is less than now, sadly. Which is why I'm revisiting my GD diet now. Great post.
